One of the best things about living in Florida is that the warm climate gives you the chance to spend lots of time outdoors. To make the most of this, it’s nice to have a great outdoor space where you can relax and entertain. That way you don’t have to leave your own property to enjoy the balmy weather. Here are five tips for decorating your outdoor space to make it more fun, luxurious and comfortable.

1. Choose Comfortable Outdoor Furniture

The right furniture makes your outdoor area more comfortable and makes it easier for you to entertain. You don’t have to stop with the usual lawn chairs. A large sectional is perfect for outdoor parties or just for the family to relax. A table and chair set makes it practical to eat meals on your patio. When choosing your outdoor furniture, you should look for pieces that are low maintenance and can withstand the elements, especially the Florida humidity. However, it’s even more important to choose comfortable furniture that you’ll want to use frequently.

2. Add Accessories

To make your outdoor area more appealing, don’t overlook accessories. For example, an ornamental rug makes your yard or patio more homey and inviting. Place cushy pillows on your outdoor chairs and sofa, decorative items on outdoor tables and stands. Candles are a nice touch to provide natural lighting at night and clocks, vases or figurines make your outdoor space feel like an extension of your living room.

3. Potted Flowers and Plants

Plants and flowers can beautify your outdoor area. Choose colorful and aromatic flowers, either seasonal or annual. Another idea is to have an herb garden. Place your plants in attractive containers to make them even more appealing and make sure you select plants that are a good match for the Florida climate and the amount of light your space receives.

4. Update Your Lighting

Lighting is another factor that makes a big difference for an outdoor space. Coach lights create a quaint effect for the front of your house. Use landscape lighting to illuminate certain features of your yard, such as a garden or fixture. A fan/light combo unit will keep you cool on warm and humid days. If your back porch lighting needs updating, get a new fixture to brighten things up.

5. Get a Feature Piece

One way to make your yard more appealing is to get a feature piece such as a decorative fountain. Choose a traditional or modern design that complements your home and property. Another option is a fire pit, which gives you the sensation of camping out right in your own yard. Having a central feature in your yard provides a focal point for your outdoor festivities.
